Animal Rising's Grand National Protest (Social Change Lab)

The effect of such disruptive protest tactics on public opinion is currently not well understood. Social Change Lab assessed the impact of Animal Rising’s Grand National protest on people’s attitudes towards animals (e.g., how acceptable it is to use animals for entertainment/food), towards bans that protect animals (e.g., on factory farming), and towards veganism, by conducting a nationally representative poll before and after the protest. The key analyses related the extent to which people had heard about Animal Rising or the protest to changes (before vs. after the protest) in people’s attitudes towards animals. Some of our key findings include:

Additional follow-ups later this year will reveal to which extent these immediate negative effects persist or change over time as further protest campaigns unfold.
